PDFs are easy to share and hard to edit, which is why a single unwanted page can feel like a big problem. A scanner may add blank pages between sheets, a contract may contain an appendix that no longer applies, and a long report may include sections that are irrelevant to the person receiving it. Removing those pages is much simpler than recreating the document.
When removing pages is the right solution
- Cleaning up a scan: scanners often insert blank or duplicate pages, especially with double-sided documents.
- Trimming a contract: drop an appendix or exhibit that no longer applies before sending the document for signature.
- Shortening a report: remove sections the recipient does not need so that they can find what matters faster.
- Preparing a file for a form: remove cover pages or extras so that the document meets the requirements of a portal.
How to remove pages step by step
- Open the Remove PDF Pages tool.
- Add the PDF you want to edit. Every page appears as a thumbnail.
- Click the pages you want to delete. They are highlighted in red, and you can click a page again to cancel.
- Check the summary, which shows how many pages will remain.
- Click Remove pages, look at the preview, and download the new file.
Selecting pages visually means you never have to count or guess page numbers, which is where most mistakes happen. The pages you keep retain their original quality, and the processing takes place in your browser rather than on a server.
Check the result before you send it
Take thirty seconds to scroll through the new document. Confirm that the page count matches what the summary promised, that no page you wanted is missing, and that the order is still logical. If the document has a table of contents or page references, remember that the numbers inside the text may no longer match the new page positions.
Keep the original
Always keep the original file unchanged and work on a copy. The tool produces a new file for download and does not modify your source, but saving your edited version under a different name, such as report-final-short.pdf, avoids confusion later.
Remove, or extract?
If you need to keep only a few pages out of a long document, it can be faster to extract them instead of deleting everything else. In that case, use the Split PDF tool, which lets you pull out the pages you need. Our guide on how to split a PDF for free explains the options.
Sensitive content: a word of caution
Deleting a page removes it from the new file, which is the right approach when an entire page must not be shared. If only part of a page is sensitive, deleting the page may not be what you want, and covering the area is a different operation. Whichever method you choose, open the final file and verify that the information is really gone before you send it to anyone.
After the cleanup
Once the document contains only what you need, you may want to reduce its weight with Compress PDF, or combine it with other files using Merge PDF. These steps work well together when you are preparing a file for a job application or an administrative form.
Frequently asked questions
Will removing pages reduce the quality of the remaining pages?+
No. The pages you keep retain their original quality; only the pages you select are left out of the new file.
Can I undo a selection before confirming?+
Yes. Click a highlighted page again to cancel its removal, and check the summary before you confirm.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?+
The processing takes place in your browser, so your document is not sent to a server.
What if I only want to keep a few pages?+
Use the Split PDF tool to extract the pages you need instead of deleting all the others.
